Leave only footprints
Anomic have recently been working on the first part of a research and development project called Leave only footprints, that explores the contemporary subculture of Urbex (Urban exploration) dealing with themes such as exploration, preservation and curiosity.
In January Anomic spent a week at The Barbican Theatre in Plymouth, creating a 20minute scratch performance.
Leave only footprints examines the imposing nature of the urban landscape, its beauty and presence and the effect it has on us as emotional beings. The piece will ask; how are we effected by the prescience of man-made environments?
Anomic wants to break open taboos as we explore notions of privacy, surveillance, control and secrecy and what it means to be in control of your own mind, body and… life.
The performance will investigate the hidden beauty within the things that we either walk past and don’t notice or try and sweep under the carpet. The work will challenge notions of abandonment and decay as ‘dangerous’ or ‘disgusting’ and re-position these ideas as ‘interesting’ and ‘challenging’, investigating the interface between the living and the dead, the past and the present.
In the week Anomic explored and developed a range of ideas through choreography, projections, beams of light and music to investigate urban and social decay in contrast with growth, economics and standards of living.
The Barbican Theatre kindly supported Anomic for their scratch performance of ‘Leave only footprints’ in London. We are extremely grateful that The Barbican provided us with their theatre space for a week leading up to our performance. We had the opportunity to really explore and research ideas, set up equipment and do a small scratch performance to the members of staff, students of the University of Plymouth, professional and young artists, which provided Anomic with valuable feedback for our performance. The Barbican creates, produces and presents contemporary theatre and dance of the highest quality and Anomic are very happy to be supported by such a creative and supportive theatre.
